Foundation

The Louise Fishman Foundation honors the life and work of Louise Fishman (1939–2021) while stewarding her creative legacy into the future. The Foundation is tasked with the care and preservation of Louise Fishman’s paintings, drawings, prints, sculptures, and other works of art. It also fosters dynamic appreciation of the artist’s achievements by encouraging research and scholarship, supporting exhibitions and publications, and facilitating placement of her works in public collections.

The Foundation was established and partially endowed through a provision of the artist’s Last Will and Testament. It began functioning in 2023 with an original board of directors recommended by the artist. The Foundation envisions future access to its archival materials and philanthropic efforts supporting the creative work of diverse women artists and writers.

The Louise Fishman Foundation maintains an archive comprising artist statements, interviews, correspondence, exhibition announcements, catalogs, and photographs. Some of the artist’s materials, tools, and sundry studio objects have also been preserved. These and other research materials are being prepared for future examination and study. In the meantime, the Foundation may respond to queries about the archive and make select items available to scholars, curators, and other researchers.
